Applied Reconfigurable Computing (ARC) Workshop

Reconfigurable computing technologies offer the promise of substantial performance gains over traditional architectures via customizing, even at runtime, the topology of the underlying architecture to match the specific needs of a given application. Contemporary configurable architectures allow for the definition of architectures with functional and storage units that match in function, bit-width and control structures the specific needs of a given computation. The flexibility enabled by reconfiguration is also seen as a basic technique for overcoming transient failures in emerging device structures.

The International Workshop of Applied Reconfigurable Computing (ARC) aims to bring together researchers and practitioners of reconfigurable computing with an emphasis on practical applications of this promising technology. This year's workshop will have a series of international invited speakers who will express their views on the future of reconfigurable technology.

Reconfigurable Computing (RC) is a computing paradigm combining some of the flexibility of software with the high performance of hardware by processing with very flexible high speed computing fabrics like FPGAs. The principal difference when compared to using ordinary microprocessors is the ability to make substantial changes to the datapath itself in addition to the control flow. On the other hand, the main difference with custom hardware (ASICs) is the possibility to adapt the hardware during runtime by "loading" a new circuit on the reconfigurable fabric [ wikipedia ]

Proceedings Publication

ARC 2009 proceedings will be published as a Springer Verlag LNCS series volume (Lecture Notes in Computer Science).

The best papers will be invited to submission to a special issue of the ACM Transactions on Reconfigurable Systems and Technology dedicated to ARC 2009.

Call for papers and Submission Information

  • Paper submission deadline: 4th November 2008 Extended
  • Notification of acceptance: 14th December 2008

Authors are invited to submit original contributions in English on a wide variety of topics related to applied reconfigurable computing, including but not limited to those listed below. Papers may be submitted via the ARC 2009 website www.arc2009.org.

Submissions must identify the format of the contribution as either:

  • Long papers, (12 pages max) which should include mainly accomplished results (oral presentation)
  • Short papers (6 pages max) to be composed of work in progress or report recent developments (poster presentation)

Each paper will be reviewed by at least three program committee members. In order to maintain a blind review, information about authors should not be included in the submission.
